Born in Manchester, Portia Emare is a captivating blend of 1/4 Nigerian heritage and 3/4 vintage soul glamour. With a career that has taken her around the globe, she made her professional debut at the tender age of 7. Since then, her performances have graced some of the most unlikely and awe-inspiring locations, from hot air balloons and the Great Wall of China to the deserts of the Middle East and the underground clubs of Soho. Whether on high wires in West End theatres or serenading secret Ibiza beaches, Portia brings her unique style and flair to every stage.

 

Known for her cheeky, joyous energy and a voice that can both soar and roar, Portia thrives in live performances. Her striking vintage wardrobe, often adorned with Vivienne Westwood couture, adds to her commanding stage presence.

 

Portia’s early 20s were spent living in Paris’ Saint-Germain district, where the city's artistic pulse ignited her passion for songwriting. Her poetry evolved into songs, leading to collaborations with producers like OD Hunte, KosmetiQ, and Dave Rose. She has performed at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott’s, and the Jazz Cafe, and internationally at Blue Marlin in Ibiza and New York's Birdland Jazz Cafe.

 

Her theatre credits include starring roles in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Lion King as Nala, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Hair. Portia also worked with Tori Amos on the National Theatre’s The Light Princess. She has just completed a residency as Mother of Ceremonies and lead vocalist at the esteemed Park Chinois in Mayfair, captivating audiences with her soulful and unforgettable performances. Portia currently  plays with her live soul and funk band at major festivals including Wilderness Festival and has a residency at the iconic music venue STEREO in Covent Garden.
